Summary Critique Outline Sample

I. Introduction: Follow format discussed in class

A. Paragraph

Introduces the author and topic area.

Presents the aim and purpose of the article

Summarizes the author’s key ideas/findings

Gives the author’s academic opinion/reaction to the work in the form a transitional thesis statement.

II. Body: Should consists of 3-5 points that support your thesis

-Body Option A:

If your review has some positive, but mostly negative:
1^st paragraph= position critique (could be one or multiple + points)
2^nd paragraph= negative critique (could be one or multiple - points)
3^rd paragraph= negative critique (could be one or multiple - points)

-Body Option B:

If your review has some negative, but mostly positive:
1^st paragraph= negative critique (could be one or multiple - points)
2^nd paragraph= positive critique (could be one or multiple + points)
3^rd paragraph= positive critique (could be one or multiple + points)

                -Body Option C:

              1^st paragraph= point 1 of critique +/- or -/+

              2^nd paragraph= point 2 of critique +/- or -/+

              3^rd paragraph= point 3 of critique +/- or -/+

III. Conclusion: Summarizes and expands on topic.
