Day 29: Literature Review II

Lesson Objectives:

• Review major components of an IMRD paper
• Read sample literature reviews and identify the moves used 
• Be introduced to some basic organizational patterns that can be applied to our own lit reviews
 

Part I: Review (10 min)
To begin today's lecture, get into pairs or small groups. As a group, you will complete this warm-up activity that serves as a review of the material covered in the last class. You can click HERE to access this handout, but please write on the sheet that I provide to your group.

• Discussion question:What do RP papers begin broadly if they are mostly read by people from within their field?

Part II: Read Sample Literature Review  (20 min)
We will now transition into a more specified discussion of the literature review. Please turn to page 329 in your handout from the last class and read the sample introduction titled, "Who says We are Bad People....Criticism" and answer the questions on the following page.  Share your answers with your classmates. We will then go over them together as a class. Pay close attention to the structure/organization of this sample.

• Discussion question: Does this organizational structure work for papers in your own field? How is it similar/different?
  

Part III: Organizing a Literature Review (20 min)
To end today's class, we will be watching a brief video that lectures on the construction of a literature review. Before watching the video, read the following corresponding handout. Fill this out during or after you have finished watching the video. Links to this materials are below:
