Day 14: Final Unit 1 Paper Instructions

Lesson Objective:

• Review all topics covered in Unit 1
• Understand how those topics can be used in composing your final analysis essay

Part I: Complete Punctuation  (10:10 min)
We will quickly go over the answer to the punctuation activity from last class. As we will not be spending much time on the topic, please write down any particular questions and email them me. I am happy to address your questions outside of class.

Part II: Review of Unit Concepts (10:10-10:15)

Think about the main topics we have covered in class so far. With your partner, discuss the following:

1. Without reading, are you able to identify the six writing topics covered thus far in class?

2. Which of these topics did you find to be the most useful/applicable for you as a writer? Why?

3. Which topic did you find to be the most difficult to understand or implement? Explain.

 Part III: Lecture (10:15-10:25)

Open the PowerPoint and follow the instructions. In this module, you will review what we have discussed so far, determine the best approach to your essay based on your short writing activities and reflect on your writing process. You will also learn more about the Diagnostic Analysis Assignment, what I expect you to include in it, and how to write it.

Part IV: Diagnostic Analysis Task (10:25-10:30)

Open the diagnostic analysis task sheet. The first step in writing is to know what you are expected to write. Read it carefully and ask questions if any part is not clear for you.

Part V: Diagnostic Analysis Rubric (10:30-10:35)

Diagnostic Analysis Rubric will tell you what I expect you to include in your essay and how you will be graded. Consider these criteria while writing your diagnostic analysis essay.

Part VI: Sample Essay (10:35-10:50)

Open the sample essay as well as the focus questions. Read the sample essay and answer the questions about it. Then discuss it with your partner. Be prepared to discuss your ideas about the questions in class. This sample essay gives you a picture of how to write your diagnostic analysis.
