Day 13: Advanced Punctuation




Lesson Objectives:
  • understand the importance of using appropriate punctuation
  • learn how to use the most common punctuation marks (comma, semi-colon,  colon, dash, parentheses, quotation marks) in academic papers
  • practice the use of punctuation marks in EAP

Part I: The Power of Punctuation (10 min)
Look to the sample texts I have given you and decipher the difference between them in small groups. Access to materials is located HERE.

Part II: Lecture on Punctuation (25 min)
You can click HERE to access the PowerPoint of follow along on the big screen. Please do not go ahead if you follow on your computer.

Part III: Practice Quiz (15 min)
Click HERE to access the practice materials dealing with Punctuation. Please complete them individually or in pairs. Time permitting, we will go over the answers together as a class. A key to the quiz is found here....please don't access it before taking the quiz.

Homework: Your Diagnostic Analysis Paper is due on Monday 2/18.
